Desktop Sharing Applications - Reviews
Zoho Meeting
Briefly True desktop sharing application with multiple participants and host activated remote control that uses Skype conferencing for audio.
Ratings (1-5)
Does what it says - 5 Cost-Benefit - 5 Overall - 4.8
Plus Does exactly what it says it will effectively. Only host must register, link to meeting can be embedded in webpage, meetings can be reactivated whenever host wants (we really like this feature), host can activate (deactivate) a participant for remote control of desktop
Minus Slow for sharing hosts whiteboard application.
Keywords desktop sharing, skype
Comments With good bandwidth (and if it stays free) this works well. LFS would like a choice of sharing region, window or full desktop.
Other Other applications also freely available at zoho.com
Type Freeware.
Website Zoho on the Web
Requires Host downloads small set of files "Zoho Meeting" folder into "Program Files" folder; participants must tell their browse to "allow" the same for them. Requires Skype for audio.

CrazyTalk for Skype
Briefly Uses Skype to show region, window or desktop of host to participants. All applications can be used by host. Can even show outside applications like Second Life.
Ratings (1-5)
Does what it says - 5 Cost-Benefit - 4 Overall - 4
Plus Does exactly what it says it will effectively. Nice that transmission can be restricted to region or window - both better for host (allows other applications to not be seen) and faster. One time purchase and not expensive. Easy to activate and easy to deactivate.
Minus Host must purchase program ($20), so problem for peer-to-peer.
Keywords desktop showing, skype
Comments CT allows a mix of audio between media and microphone (cool feature), but could not change default setting for mixing (set halfway) so must always remember to slide it to maximum
Other Can show avatar talking - (must purchase decent avatars separately)
Type Single Purchase - $20 for host only.
Website CrazyTalk for Skype on the Web
Requires Installs as separate program; requires Skype

Yugma
Briefly Uses Skype to show desktop of host to participants.
Ratings (1-5)
Does what it says - 2 Cost-Benefit - 2 Overall - 2
Plus Basic program is free for showing desktop to 10 participants. Premium version is $10 per month and supposedly allows more participants and they can also use applications on desktop of host.
Minus Free version: so slow, we could not get it to load on several separate occasions with only host and one participant(maybe because it can only share whole desktop). Also, some internal running problems. Namely, to work you can only open one instance once; if you open another instance (e.g. you happen to open the website) it will start, but then jam when you try to participate.
Keywords desktop showing, desktop sharing, skype
Comments We couldn't get it to work. Supposedly it should be a free for desktop showing, which would be nice.
Other ?
Type Free - Basic Version; $10/Month - Premium Version
Website Yugma on the Web
Requires Registration and installs as plugin (cannot be uninstalled); requires Skype

We think sharing goes through both skype and yugma hosting.

Twiddla
Briefly Online application allowing real-time shared annotation of shared online browser window or blank canvas (interactive whiteboard). No interaction with browser window is allowed.
Ratings (1-5)
Does what it says - 4 Cost-Benefit - 4 Overall - 3
Plus Does exactly what it says it will. Allows images to be uploaded and displayed. Free.
Minus Cannot use application in browser window, i.e. cannot play media like youtube video or powerpoint presentation, cannot activate client-sided applications like javascript or java (geogebra).  Limited number of drawing tools so not very useful as interactive whiteboard.
Keywords browser sharing, annotation, interactive whiteboard
Comments Good for discussion of webpage contents

Ratings (1-5)
Does what it says - 4 Cost-Benefit - 2 Overall - 2
